A client came to us recently.
Their mother is in long-term care in another province.
They want to bring her to Ontario.
Closer to family.
But they don't know how.
Navigating long-term care within one province is already complicated.
Across provincial lines?
Even more complex. Or is it?
Most families don't know where to start.
This is the kind of work GALA takes on proudly.
Here is what is involved.
- Start an application with the provincial health authority right away.
- Select 5 nursing homes. Probably best to choose the ones with the shortest waitlist, they may not be the best, but you can get in within the year.
GALA can help you make a confident decision here.
- Then there will be the coordination of the paper work between the provinces to make sure that the provincial authority has all the information they need for a complete application.
- Your loved one can wait in their province, while a bed becomes available.
- Applying for provincial health insurance pre-authorization so that you have provisional provincial health insurance when a bed becomes available.
- Working very closely with the provincial authority to coordinate the transfer of your loved one when that bed becomes available.
GALA will take care of all these steps for you, so you don’t have to worry about it.
We help families navigate the complexity.
We look at what's required.
And we do the work to make it happen.
Bringing a loved one closer to family shouldn't feel impossible.
